NY to Shannon to Kenmare - Best plan for travel

Hi, Is a flight from NY to Shannon followed by a 3 hour car ride to Kenmare our best/easiest option for travel to Kenmare? I'm concerned about driving the 3 hours after an overnight flight. Are there local flights between Shannon and Kerry (the closest airport to Kenmare), or even between Dublin and Kerry? Flying into Dublin would also be an option.

If not, and we don't want to deal with the drive on the day of arrival, is there a place close to the airport that would be a pleasant stopping point en route to Kenmare?

Thanks!

I have done this drive at least a dozen times and it is a very easy drive. It use to be a pain getting through Limerick but there is now a tunnel by pass to avoid that. The only tricky part is getting through Killarney but if you watch the signs its not that hard and the drive through the National Park and the Mountains is great.
If you really don't want to drive stop in Bunratty, (15 minutes from the airport) get some sleep and in the afternoon you can do the folk park and have a nice meal without having to drive. The Creamery in Bunratty served a nice meal at a decent price and you can sit outside Durty Nellies with a pint and people watch. This is usually last night for an early flight out. Ennis is an alternative. Have fun

We did this drive last May. The airport in Shannon is small, but there's a coffee shop there so we stopped for coffee and pastry before picking up our rental car. As John says, the road is not difficult to drive and we were in Killarney in time for lunch at Muckross House followed by a tour. We then continued our journey to Kenmare.

You can fly Dublin Kerry but it wouldn't be an option I would consider. Shannon through the tunnel and into Kilarney to Kenmare is an easy drive with lots of places to stop along the way for a leg stretch, coffee and snack. Bunratty will be closed until 9.30 Durty Nelies is rarely used by the locals.
