I'm sure you can find all kinds on the internet, but the simplest thing to do is buy a télécarte once you get to France. You can get them in tabacs, cafés, Relais stores and all kinds of places.

There is one at Costco, an ATT I think. Around $30. We used one several years ago, although pay phones are sometimes few and far between. Still we didn't have much of a problem finding one. If you're taking a laptop, use Skype, it's free between computers and real cheap if you call a phone from your computer. WIFI is just about everywhere. just go to McDonalds, sit down and log on.

I second what StCirq said. The telecartes in Paris cost about 8 euro and usually have 200-300 minutes. I used mine to make phone calls from my hotel room. I haven't used a pay phone in Paris since my first visit in 2000.

If you land at CDG, the Relais stores sell prepaid cards.

To find a phone booth in a small town in France, go to the mairie, the post office, or the train station.

I'll piggy back on this topic

In addition to calling minutes, do those prepaid telecartes come in ones that include internet options? I'm planning on bringing my iphone or some other smartphone but didn't want to pay for the crazy roaming charges.
