Cinque Terra or Amalfi Coast

I am looking at changing my Itinerary. If you had to choose between Cinque Terra or Amalfi Coast, what would it be? We are going in July, but not really going to visit the beach. We are interested in exploring towns and local food.

Thanks

Vastly different locales; both on the water but much more to see and do on the Amalfi Coast. You do not share where else you are going.

We are also going to Rome, Florence, Venice and Milan.

Thanks for the response.

How long is your trip? The four destinations mentioned above each merit quite a bit of sightseeing time . We have been to both the CT and the AC a few times each and love both areas. If you have only a couple days, I think you'll find it more convenient to stay north and see the CT. I don't know the order of your travel, but it is relatively easy to reach from Florence or from Milan. The AC is stunning too, of course, and has the added bonus of being in reasonable proximity to Pompei, Capri, Naples, Paestum and many other amazing spots. But if you only have a few days, why not save this area of Italy for another trip where you can spend at least a week?

thanks for the replies. I think we will stay up north and keep AC for next time?

Sounds like you've made your choice ...... as the CT vs. AC destination is a frequently raised topic, here are a couple other threads which drill down into what each locale offers.

Each area offers a different ambience & activities. Dependant on rest of one's itinerary, that may be a deciding factor in choice.

Do be aware that two of the CT towns (Monterosso & Vernazza) experienced rains/mudslides this past fall. HOWEVER, per another thread (Updates on Cinque Terre) clean-up well underway and by time of your trip in July, all should be up & running.

I too am very interested in the update regarding damage from the terrible October 11 flooding in Monterosso. We were planning to visit the region in late May however one of the reasons to go was the hiking between Monterosso and Vernazza (sp) - any updates? Are all the trails between the five villages closed?
Thanks for any information
