Would you recommend 4 or 5 nts for Berner Oberland?
We'll be basing in Lauterbrunnen, no car, and I'm trying to finalize my itinerary for this area. We'd like to visit Grindelwald, Wegen, Murren, and of course the Jungfrau. I was planning on 5 nights to allow a more relaxing visit and flexibility in the event of bad weather (traveling in Sept). There's a possbility I may need to pull a night from this area and I'm wondering if 4 nights would allow enough time?
Thank you in advance.

4 nights is generally 3 days only. The trip to Jungfrau is a full day trip, but really worth it (it weather is clear). We stayed in Wengen for 6 nights and had a great time. We did all our "must do" things, but there were tons of other things we wished we had time for.
Depending on your priorities and what else you are planning, you can take a day from the mountains and add it somewhere else (or not). How long is your trip? Where else are you going?
You do not need a car there, so don't worry about it. You'll love it no matter what.

I would make it five nights, if the weather is poor for the first four days you do have another chance to go to Jungfraujoch. You might like to add a day at the open air museum at Ballenberg just outside Brienz and take the lake steamer either one both way or both ways. There are many other trips and/or walks that you can do on the extra day.

We had five nights giving us four full days to explore. This ended up being one day in Interlaken, one day to go to Jungfrau, one day to Grindenwald, one day to Schilthorn (walking back to Lauterbrunnen along the valley).
Hotel Staubbach is our recommendation for accommodation, particularly those rooms facing the waterfall.

This past October, my wife and I spent a week hiking and touring the Bernese-Oberland; we used Murren as our base. It was absolutely wonderful. We toured the areas and hiked the trails that you noted. Rather than the Jungfrau however, we went to the Schilthorn which is not as high, but the vistas cannot be any better. We also had coffee at the revolving restaurant at the top which was neat.
We stayed in Murren because it is a little village with a big view! We wanted to be in the mountains rather than looking up at them. With Swiss transportation being so well timed and reliable, we easily visited several places each day throughout the Bernese-Oberland.
Lauterbrunnen will be a good hub for you as you visit Wengen and Murren on the other side of the valley. Try the hike from Murren to Gimmelwald (not Grindelwald) for its great views and pleasant downhill grade. Don't forget a camera!
You will have a great time!

Chiming in...
Five nights gives you the weather flexibility. So much to do no matter what, even if you have perfect weather. So happy you are leaning that way.
Having major trip envy as I write...the most magical night of my life was listening to cowbells all through the night from our room at Kleine Scheindegg (it was summer and we kept the windows open to catch both the breeze and starlight).
