I had a great time in Morocco. My wife and I went for a day trip from Tarifa to Tangier. We did the Europe tour for our honeymoon, and while we were in Spain, decided to visit Morocco. I was an incredible experience. Here's a video on youtube that I recently posted that logs our journal and experience in Morocco: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDmww7JI9UQ
cheers!

For desert tours, here is a list of small operators that I have researched . . .

I did this as a single and it was super easy and so beautiful.
You need a guidebook so you won't be confused like a Lonely Planet or visit their forum for current cost on things.
MarraKesh is to play, shop, eat, and have fun.
From there you go to the long-haul taxi station.
If you are alone it helps to meet people in town
to share the trip with.
The desert trip is Quarzazate and should cost about $10 in a shared taxi.
I think it is 4 hours away.
Once in Quazazate you look for a tour company. Lonely Planet should have some suggestions.
You can either join a small group
or hire your own car.
Since this is a road trip of a lifetime I suggest hiring your own car so that you can make as many photo stops as you want (there will be plenty!), eat where you want, and of course spend time in the riads.
Of course, listen to your own music and hog the A/C!
Lol!!!
Quazazate is stunning! It is where they filmed Babel and many other movies.
There you travel high on the roads and enjoy the stunning scenery, visit the Gorges, and go on your camels safari trek and camp in the desert!
So much fun.
I suggest spending 2 nights so that you can sandboard or sand ski and of course spend more times
riding the camels.
I think the desert is Merzouga.
This is my favorite Morocco route!
A travelers trip.
Order food from the menu on the stand outside.
When they give you a menu inside the prices are much higher but it is the same food.
Lol!!!!!

You don't say how long you're going to be there, the desert/ Merzouga is quite far from Marrakesh, but well worth the trip. Travel2eat's suggestions are spot on, we just loved Ouarzazate and the surrounding areas, much more than Marrakesh, which I found to be rather touristy.
