We'll be in Paris for the first time next June, and are looking for a good apartment for our family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids ages 10, 12, and 14). I found a few with Vacation In Paris which are in our budget (ideally $250-$300/night), and seems to be in a good location.

Any thoughts on whether this area is a good base for a family? I also found quite a few apartments in the Marais area, but wasn't sure if that would be as good for us. Here's one that looked small but workable:

Forget the Beauborg Loft - you would kill each other within three days.
VIP 129 OK, not fabulous
VIP 251 is reasonable, but of the lot
VIP 225 would be my first choice if the potential for street noise is not a problem. With AC throughout you can always keep the windows closed. The additional cost would be well worth it to have the extra bedroom and bathroom. Quite a good price for what you are getting.

With 5 people there is no way I would go for a 1-bedroom apt - and certainly not a studio. To me the only one that seems an option is the 2 BR. I would clarify if by 2nd floor they mean US (up one flight of stairs) or European (up 2 flights of stairs).

All of these apartments are lovely, but to me 500-600 sq feet is a little tight for 5 people. This apartment may suit you also as it is much larger, has two full baths and a separate washer and dryer. It has great transportation and very near Luxumbourg Gardens and Rue Mouffetard. We have stayed there for three weeks previously and are staying there for 6 weeks this spring. The decor is more traditional as I see that you lean more towards the contemporary. http://www.lacigaleparis.com/take_a_tour.htm.

I agree that a splurge for space and 2 bedrooms would be worthwhile. We have stayed in the homeaway apartment below. With 2 bedrooms an 2 baths it is a good example of a more ideal situation. Do some further searching. I will tell you that vacation in Paris is great to work with - never a problem.

Five of us stayed in www.vrbo.com/90955, and it would be perfect for your family group, I think. Great location in the 6th, quiet, secure, two bedrooms (one with queen, the other with 2 twins) sofa bed in living room, 2 bathrooms.

That 2 BR apt really appears to have closets for bedrooms, which is necessary, of course, with that size. One of them at least is clearly just a closet or hallway they put a bed in as the walls of the room just about touch either side of the bed. Still, I guess it might give some privacy.

I don't think that Beaubourg loft is so bad, I htink it looks nicer than the one from VIP, in terms of decor. Just somthing funny going on with the living room where I don't think there is really enough room for everyone to sit around and it's an odd angle. Would be fine for maybe 2-3 people.

I also think 500 sf is really small for 5 people. But any of those in terms of neighborhood would be fine, if that's the worry. And I don't have any problem with a loft per se, if it were big enough, mainly just means it's not a real room, and will be open on one side (and that they built a room into the current apt, cutting into it's ceiling height, of course). The floor space of the main room isn't so bad on that one, but I don't like it at all myself. I think it's ugly, those clear plastic chairs are horrible and no doubt not comfortable, and the TV is up in the corner of the ceiling, that will really not be any fun to watch.

Some of these other apartments look really nice, some are just a bit more than we want to spend. On goes the search...
