New York Times article on Burmese artists ...

I never would have thought I would see the day ... posting for those heading that way this year. Galleries and artist information, plus pictures. Knocks me out.

AMAZING! We are going back this January -- will definitely use this article (and add on a day) to explore the art scene. Thanks for the link!

Went to a gallery in Yangon recently and bought some art with a friend. It was something akin to "meeting a man under a bridge with the money in a paper sack". Gut wrenching art space, I felt like I was standing on a smoldering volcano.

Nice article, isn't it? We visited the gallery in the Strand last time and hope to visit that and some other galleries this trip.

Thanks for posting this. Last weekend's book review included a great-sounding new book on Burma; I posted the review on the book thread.

I am officially not allowed to rethink this January's vacation, though everything that is happening in Burma is making me wish I'd started all this planning sooner ... I will look forward to reports and pictures from you Kathie and Approach Guides -- ok, what do people call you for short?

eks, thanks for book link! Lori -- representative work? abstract? can you expound a bit more?

I loved getting this link to the NY Times article!! Thanks for posting. I cherish the painting we bought in Myanmar in February from the artist in his home. His first sale ever from his home. We had to get special permission from the government to visit him.

Here you go, Patty! Link is at the very end. The author (grandson of U Thant) has written another excellent book about Burma that I recommend as well: RIVER OF LOST FOOTSTEPS.
