Need help with Norway travel

We will be flying into Alesund in Aug - have 3 days in that area and would like to get to Geirangerfjord. What's the best way to accomplish this - any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Our tour agent has us booked in Stryn after 1 night in Alesund with a return to Alelsund but not sure that is a good place to stay vs. Geirangerfjord.

Thanks!

For some reason there seems to be limited responses to questions about Norawy on this forum. I suggest you try http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum...50-Norway.html

There are several Norwegian experts who will quickly and accurately answer your questions.

You may want to rent a car to get to Geirangerfjord. That may be the most efficient way of getting there and back.

We stayed in student housing while Alesund. It was in the middle of town and well located.

I agree with historytraveler -- when we were planning our trip last spring to Norway and Sweden, there wasn't much activity on this site. However, at that other site, there were some experts who responded with great ideas and thoughts.

When you ask the best way to accomplish it - are you looking for route advice or whether or not to rent a car ? We rented a car and found it was relatively easy to get around.

early August? Are you going to the Norseman Ironman Triathlon? It looks amazing!

Thanks for the references to Trip Advisor - somewhat helpful. What I would really like to know that in my perception would be the most helpful is getting from Alesund to Geirangerfjord - car (maybe, we've been all over the world but never rented a car; perhaps a little intimidating...) but do we have time in the Geirangerfjord area if we only stay overnight after leaving Alesund early on the 11th and returning there in the afternoon of the 13th to get to the Dalsnibba Mountain plateau and perhaps do either some kayaking or hiking.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

The one drawback to renting a car … is that the driver will have to keep his/her eyes on the road and not be able to enjoy the breathtaking scenery.

OK I admit I found this on Google but maybe it is if use:

In fact searching on Alesund to Geiranger came up with a lot of hits, and advice.

Thanks for the info hetismij2 - this looks like exactly what we are looking for - can't wait! Renting a car sounds great but it's a little overwhelming - bus and ferry sounds like we both can enjoy the views!
