Venice Hotel / canal views
We will be in Venice in Nov. and would like to stay in a hotel with views of the grand canal.
Any suggestions for boutique type hotels for under $400.00 per night ? Looking for
something really nice with good location for sightseeing. Thanks

We loved the boutique lodging where we stayed in May - it was NOT on the Grand Canal (Locanda Orseolo). But we did visit their sister property, Hotel Al Ponte Antico, which is on the canal. It appeared to have the same outstanding hospitality and personal service. There is a lovely bar and breakfast room and an outstanding terrace right on the canal to savor late night views of the Rialto Bridge and all the Grand Canal activity. I think it is much more appealing than it seems on the website. http://www.alponteantico.com/en/index.htm

Thanks elnap29 ... There were no rooms with a canal view when I checked with
the Al Ponte Antico last week. If the hotel is that great, maybe we will settle for a room without the view. I will also check out the Locanda Orseolo. Any other suggestions ?

Foscari Palace 4* sup, not far from Al Ponte Antico. Its Deluxe double and Gonzaga suite both face Grand Canal. It was really a nice stay I did there twice, especially Gonzaga Suite, at least 50m2 of huge room, large bathroom, etc. Also it's rooftop terrace is a big advantage to enjoy 360-degree view of Venetian roofs and Grand Canal. Traghetto right by the hotel and vaporetto stop "Ca D'Oro" a mere 1 minute walk.

The Al Ponte Antico is wonderful! Stayed there last Thanksgiving. I would settle for any room there as you will get views from the lounge/breakfast room which overlooks the Grand Canal. Great location, too, just a minute from Rialto Bridge.

You might try the Hotel Palazzo Stern. It is on the Grand Canal at the Ca' Rezzonico stop. I noticed it while traveling down the canal when I was in Venice last month. I thought the building was pretty and took a photo, not knowing then for sure which palazzo it was. In my research I discovered it was a hotel and looked up their website. It seems to fit your criteria and gets good reviews on TripAdvisor.com

I don't think Pallazo Stern is under $400 - it doesn't hurt to try, though. Most hotels on the Grand Canal and with canal view and under $400 may not be very nice. Under $300 with all the above - watch out! At that price point, you're usually paying strictly for location/view.
That said, here ARE some others worth looking into in your price range.
