Dublin-best place to rent car to easily exit city to South part of country
We will spend 2 nights in Dublin when arriving to Ireland Oct. 1. We don't plan to rent a car until we leave Dublin to tour the south and central part of Ireland. We are looking for a car rental place that will be easy to get to with our luggage (via public transport or taxi); yet maybe near the southern edge of town so we don't have too difficult of a time exiting the city. Any suggestions? There are 4 adults in our party. Thanks!

DO NOT RENT with Dollar/Thrify! We had a terrible experience with them in Dublin! DO NOT! DO NOT!! They tried to charge us for something the car inspector did purposefully while inspecting the car! I saw him with my own eyes!

The Auto Europe site lists several pick up points in Dublin. According to the map at viamichelin.com, the one on Old Killmainham Road is just south of the city center and the one on Haddington Road is just southeast of the city center.
Auto Europe is a consolidator and finds you the best rate from among the agencies with which it has contracts. The car I rented was provided by Budget.

We have had so much luck woth Economycarrentals.com
We are renting from 9/29 - 10/9/11 for $222 including all insurance for a Citroen C2. We have used them in Italy and Turkey. They are a consolidator. We got Budget out of Dublin.

Another vote for Dan Dooley at the Airport. We took a taxi from the rental car area to Dublin (area near Christ Church) and I think we paid 30 euro including tip. We went the opposite direction as you and ended in Dublin, approaching from the South, and thought the area around the airport was very easy to navigate.

Hello just back from Ireland several days ago. We rented from Dan Dooley at Shannon airport, and returned the car in Dublin. As someone mentioned, Dan Dooley can deliver your car to your Dublin hotel...or they can pick it up from your Dublin hotel if you are returning your car. We didn't have any problems with Dan Dooley. However I spent loads of time studying the issues with how to have the right credit card so that you can decline CDW and thereby save money on car insurance by having your World MC cover the insurance. Too complicated to explain here but there are several threads about this here on fodors and also on www.IrelandYes.com .
Have a great trip.
