will I be pickpocketed while bike riding in Barcelona

OK OK - what I really want to ask is if anyone knows if you can ride bikes in Parc de la Ciutadella in Barcelona. I posted the question, I topped it no answers but obvioulsy the pickpocket thread goes on and on. On our upcoming trip we are hoping to rent bikes and ride thru the park but several years ago we did a Fat Tire tour and it seems we had to walk our bikes thru the park.

when cycling walking etc... doing that have never had a problem

travel.state.gov has all safety issues for Barcelona.

Have fun,

suec1, you're a pot-stirrer! I bet you'll get another 100+ responses but none will answer your real question.

BTW, can you tell me where you're planning to bike, and are you renting bikes from a regular shop or doing the bike-sharing thing? DH & I are heading to Barcelona in the Fall and riding bikes sounds like a good idea, esp along the Barceloneta beach front!

Well, bicitram rents bikes near the park :

and El Periodico ( a Barcelona newspaper ) printed some bike tours back in May, and one of them went through the park.

StCirq - bingo! yes it does appear that one can ride bikes. Good suggestion

YK - it seems to me that we saw a bike rental shop on one edge of the park - actually the end not far from Barceloneta. On a previous visit we did a Fat Tire bike ride and part of it was along the beach and Barceloneta area. We liked the Fat Tire bike experience altho at times I thought our bike "gang" was a bit obnoxious as we rode thru some crowded areas. We did see those "city bikes" too - not sure how easy it is to access those - is a "chip and pin" type of credit card needed?

suec1, would you mind reporting back about riding bikes/bike rentals when you return from your trip? [When's your trip?]

yk - we will be in Barcelona in early Oct (actually a two day stop mid-cruise, Oct. 8 and 9). Did you click the link from "Cova" - the top one had a map with bike rental locations. I also clicked the lower one and found an article (in Spanish) but did not see any map of suggested bike rides. When is your trip?
