We will be coming in October and we need a cheap hotel in Boston near the airport for our early am flight. We need a place that has shuttle to airport but is not too expensive. Nothing fancy,just clean and safe. Any recommendations?

I would look at Kayak to see what deal they have. Oct is leaf season and prices may not be super low even in Boston.

(There is a modest Hilton actually attached to the airport - but I doubt that would fit you budget.)

Both the Hyatt and the Hilton at the airport itself are often available on Priceline (the name your own price feature) for about $100 including taxes.

They are the only two 4 star hotels in the zone, and both have shuttles. You can actually walk to most terminals from the Hilton through the parking garage if you don't have too much luggage.

Be careful about location - not for the obvious safety reasons, but avoid Chelsea - which is under normal circumstances about 5 minutes from the airport over something called the "Chelsea Bridge" by everyone - I am sure it has a real name. It is a small bridge that is under construction, blocking a reasonable route from Chelsea to Logan, forcing you to go over Tobin Bridge or a complicated route that only locals could figure out. Because of this, hotels like Windham in Chelsea has been cheap lately, since there is no other reason to stay there.

I don´t think "cheap/Boston " go together anymore. I bid up to $130 last month and finally bought an airport hotel for $140+tax. The comfort inn gets good reviews but was as expensive as the Hilton/Hyatt. Just check kayak.cm, travelocity and hotels' websites and hopefully you also can have some type of discount.. AAA, senior or entertainment book. Good luck.

Actually, if Windham in Chelsea has good rates, you might consider it. They used to have an airport shuttle - don't know if they still do. Also, although it is not accessible by the T (subway), it is on the Newburyport/Rockport commuter rail line.

If you choose to stay there, ask for a room as high up as possible to minimize or avoid street noise.

When looking for cheap city lodging, I look for a HI hostel. The bathrooms are down the hall but most have a kitchen.
Never stayed at this one but have stayed at many others.

October is prime leaf peeping season and accomodation prices tend to be on the very high side. The hostel is a good idea, but it is downtown (reachable by T). The T subway lines run more frequently than the commuter rail lines, such as the one that passes through Chelsea. Otherwise, there are a few decent less expensive choices on the outskirts of the city, but not necessarily near the airport and not all accessible without a car.

Thanks all, My flight leaves at 8 a.m. to Alaska,so it's a long flight and I dont want to have a long commute to airport at 6:30am. We will rent a car but want to return it the night before we leave.

take a look at www.hotwire.com. you may find something a bit cheaper than other online accommodation sites. The hotwire hotel lists at www. betterbidding.com will help you identify the opaque hotels through their amenities.

You can often identify the hotels from the photos.

Don't know prices, but Embassy Suites @Logan is good choice .... stayed there for a night earlier this year. And particularly convenient if renting your car thru Enterprise, as it's a short walk from their rental lot to the hotel.

There's a way to decode the opaque hotels at lastminutetravel.com listed in their FAQs or somewhere at www.betterbidding.com. There is a hotel code number in the URL. Once you have it it's a guarantee. All the 4*s at Logan are either Hilton or Hyatt, so if you see that at a good price, you know you can't go wrong.

Embassy Suites has a prepaid noncancelable rate which includes breakfast for two that is a really good deal IF they serve breakfast early enough. You will want to be at your terminal by 7. Lines for security early in the AM are usually long at Logan.
