october honeymoon

Hi, new to fodors and was really hoping for some travel advice. My fiancee and I are looking for an AI in either the caribbean or central america in October. We are looking for less than $300/night and probably for 7-10 days. We definitely want great food, lots of drinks, and relaxation, but with things to do also. Our beginners research, and friends advice, have led us to iberostar grand bavaro in punta cana or iberostar grand paraiso in riviera maya. But we are open to any advice, especially because it is technically still hurricane season. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

We've been going to Mexico over the past 10 years and have been to the DR once. The Iberostar Grand Paraiso is a top rated resort. There are plenty of things to do off property also.

October is still part of hurricane season. Do buy the trip/hurricane insurance that you can cancel for any reason just to be on the safe side. When are you going in October? Anyway to push it to the first or second week of November? We gone several times the first week of November and had no issues with weather. However, that is no guarantee.

Other hotels in the Riviera Maya area to consider: Royal Playa del Carmen, Secrects Maroma, El Dorado Maroma.

If your concerned about hurricanes, you could also look at Aruba, Curacao, Barbados, or St. Lucia. Though no guarentee, there is a better chance of getting good weather. Having said that, Aruba had tropical storms in October the past 2 years.
