Lassen to Klamath Falls - CA89/I-5/US97 or CA299/139?
Quick question for those familiar with this area. Will be driving from Lassen Volcanic Natl'l Park to Klamath Falls, OR. Both routes are about same distance. I know the 89/5/97 route will go right past Mt. Shasta, which I would love to see; but is there any strong reason to take the more interior route of 299/139?
We won't have time to stop for anything, just taking the scenery in from the car.
Thanks in advance.

The 89 route through McCloud is much more scenic. The sun will be behind you in the morning so your pics of Mt. Shasta will be better. There are 2 pulloffs on US 97 to take pictures of the north side of the mountain.
What brings you to K-Falls? Try to find the time to make it around Crater Lake. IMHO it is a lot nicer than Lassen.

For a slightly different experience, assuming that you are willing to drive on dirt roads, Google map your two end destinations and add Medicine Lake in between. It will provide a fascinating drive through lava fields.

Thanks for the input. We'll be visiting Crate Lake after Lassen, and overnighting at Klamath Falls. Hence the question about the routing. It'll be in a rental car, and I'd avoid unpaved road as much as possible.

I really loved Lassen and there is really a lot more to do there than Crater Lake. However, Crater Lake does provide more shock and awe.
If you could work in a couple of hours to Burney Falls, I think it is probably the most underrated waterfall in America. It is a very pretty one and one that you can get up and personal with. I would rank it just behind a couple of the falls in Yosemite.
The falls are at McArthur/Burney State Park

Did stop by Burney Falls and did the Falls Loop Trail. Enjoyed it. Also stopped for pictures at the railroad bridge over Lake Britton - the one in "Stand By Me". Too bad the tracks had been torn up.
