Advice on Car Rental in Uruguay

Looking for advice on renting a car in Uruguay. We rented a house outside of PdE and need to get there from Montevideo. Car rental is a must because of where we are staying...any advice on how, who, scams, etc?

Thanks!

We used autoeurope - they include all fees, including comprehensive insurance in their quotes. I believe they contract with various rental companies, and am not sure if they are the cheapest, but we have had good service from them in the past and have felt that they adequately disclosed everything.

Autoeurope has a good reputation in Uruguay. Scams..? Read the small letter, and check if the spare tire is included as well as any loose tools , also check for dents etc before taking the car.
rentals in high season do not come cheap in Uruguay. I should be cheaper to rent in Montevideo than in Punta del Este.
There are a couple of toll booths between both cities, I think you can only pay in local currency so be sure you have it.

I have heard conflicting reports regarding the Payment of Tolls in LOCAL CURRENCY ONLY.

Is this actually the case ?

Many thanks,

I think so, tolls are only a few pesos each, I do not remember exactly by like 3 or 4 dollaars,
you can change money upon arrival at the airport.

We rented from AVIS is Montevideo and drove up the coast to Punta del Diablo. The rental process was a relatively painless experience and the car was great. Avis does take a substantial damage deposit which blocks your credit line.
