Thinking About US Virgin Islands

Last year we want to Long Island Bahamas in February and just loved the remoteness and its natural beauty. This February my husband says he wants to try one of the US Virgin Islands. I haven't even begun to start researching them but thought I could start by asking which if any of these Islands are more remote than others? While I wait for responses I will start looking. Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Interesting question. I have been to Long Island and I am not sure there is much about the USVI that remote if he liked L.I. The only idea I can suggest and I have not been there, only researched it a little after a return from St. Thomas last month is Water Island off of ST, accessible by a water taxi/small ferry. I did find several rental homes on vrbo on Water Island and you get around via golf cart. The beauty of Water Island is that it would be just minutes away from the STT airport with a stop at a grocery store to provision right there along the way yet it would feel so much more secluded than some other places for people who seek that.
I guess part of it depends on where you stayed on L.I. - IF you stayed at CSM then my opinion might be different than if you stayed elsewhere more local in feel. I will be interested to hear what others say but I will tell you that when we visited Anegada in the BVI's last year I thought it was the closest in topography and "feel" to the Bahamas out islands as I had found anywhere else. Have you considered that for a remote but gorgeous locale? I do love the out islands and hope you find what you are looking for! I have been to St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix (but not for a long time with that one) and I am not thinking any of them remind me of L.I.- perhaps St. Croix might hold more similarities away from the main towns. Have you considered another out island?

Hmmm - it depends what you mean by remote. St. John is harder to get to because you can't fly there - you have to fly into St. Thomas and take a ferry over - but St. Croix is the most remote, as it is 40 miles south of the other US Virgins and the BVI. Croix is its own destination (with its own airport and daily flights from the states), while a stay on St. Thomas or St. John would probably include a bit of island hopping to nearby islands in the BVI for day trips. All of the islands (except Anegeda in the BVI) have mountains, but Croix is the only one with a rain forest. It is also the largest island of the USVI and the least dependent on tourism. Croix is my personal favorite, but I would never try to talk anyone out of St. John - it is classic Caribbean (just plan to get there quickly and spend as little time as possible in St. Thomas!).

If you decide to consider the BVI's, although nothing like L.I. in appearance, we loved Virgin Gorda. The pace and the vibe might be more what you are looking for.
