Western Caribben - snorkeling - which port?

My family will be sailing on the Carnival Dream in Oct 2011. Snorkeling is offered in all the ports - Cozumel, Belize, Mahogany Bay- Isla Roatan and Costa Maya.

My initial thought was to snorkel in Belize on the Great Barrier Reef. The problem is that there is also cave tubing in Belize, which is something that can only be done in Belize. Is there time for both? If we did not snorkel in Belize, then where should we snorkel?

Would prefer to book excursions locally vs. through the crusie line. I hear the prices are better and there are 4 of us traveling. If anyone has any experience with this, please share.

Thanks!

There is NO time for both in Belize, and it is a tender port. Do the tubing with Reggie he is the original. Avoid the cruise line excursions they are overpriced. Just go to my blog and do a little homework. Enjoy.

Chincorro Bank around Belize Cozumel

Think u mean the Great Blue Hole

only for experienced divers and we lose one of them

periodically... not for the novice long boat ride...

Thank you so much! I will reserarch this information.

cruisinbob - thanks for the recommendation! I will check out your blog! I do have another question for you. I found a bunch of private tours in Cozumel. They can accomodate up to 8 people for the same price. Is there a forum where I might find 4 other people on the same cruise to share? Or is that not a good idea?

qwovadis - see you so much in the Costa Rica forum! Yes, I've been to the Great Barrier Reef in OZ, I should have called it the Belize Barrier Reef. Thanks for the recommendations!
