How do I get from Hampton Inn, Carlstadt, NJ to Manhattan?

Just arrived in Carlstadt and the receptionist is really unhelpful. I can see a bus stop over the other side of Paterson Plank Road; does anyone know if buses from that stop go to NYC and what number I need to get? Also do you need to get a ticket in advance or can you give the driver cash? Alternatively is there a train nearby?

PS If anyone has been following my posts, we have had a superb tour of New England. I can pass on our stops to anyone who is interested. Lots of them were suggested by Fodor forum contributers, so thank you.

According to maps.google.com these buses stop right near your hotel, Paterson Plank Rd at Gotham Parkway

Westbound 144, 160, 163, 772

Eastbound 160, 163, 164, 772

google search "NJ transit route 160" (etc) and you'll see a pdf file with the schedule for each route. If the hotel has a printer then you can print out the schedules.

It looks like #160 & 163 both go directly to NY Port Authority bus terminal in Manhattan.

Do check schedules carefully. Since this is a commuter bus the schedules tend to be sparse on weekends and in the later evening.

The next receptionist was v helpful and gave us a bus timetable. It all seemed very easy - cross the road and wait but our bus (No, 163) didn't arrive and the next on arrived too full to take everyone. It was the same on the way back; too many people and not enough seats. Sunday is perhaps not such a good service as weekdays but we made it and had a very enjoyable day in Manhattan.

Welcome to Fodors daniekc. Perhaps you didn't notice this thread is more than five years old (and the author hasn't been around in quite a while).

If you are planning a trip through New England, you would do better if you start a new thread of your own.

Meant to add . . . >>you would do better if you start a new thread of your own, and even more so because this one is tagged for NY and NJ and not any New England states.
