Getting from the San Diego airport to Coronado Island without a car

Is there a shuttle service or should we just cab it? And do you know the approximate cab fare?

There is a ferry that goes over to Coronado. You could probably take the bus to the Ferry landing but it's a short trip in a cab.
Here's the website. Enjoy!

BTW, we did this one eveing with some friends, it was about $5.

I don't know where you're staying in Coronado but it's a small town, for instance it's about a mile to the Hotel Del which is on the other side of Coronado from where you'll be landing.

There are shuttle services, but I imagine they would be expensive. Your best bet would be a cab. I've never done it before, but I would guess it would be around $30-$40, maybe more.

The ferry idea is fun, but not sure you would want to schlep your luggage on a bus, then a ferry and then walk another mile or less to your hotel in Coronado. Its a fun day trip without luggage though!

If you are like me, and anxious to get to your destination after the plane ride, I would bite the bullet and take a cab. Depending on where you are staying, perhaps they can arrange transport for you.

The door-to-door airp[ort shuttles might be a bit cheaper for just one or two people. You'd have to make your own decision about whether saving a few bucks on a cab is worth the minor hassles of a shuttle.

I'm also a little confused about the post that said the cab fare was about $5. Although the line-of-sight distance is not very far, to get there by car, you have to get out of town to I-5, take I-5 south to the Coronado Bridge exit, cross the bridge, and then drive a couple of miles across the island. I'd gues the $30-$40 estimate is much more accurate.

In any event, it's a great place. Enjoy your trip.

dwooden - I think the $5 referred to ferry ride.

Yep, probably so. I just didn't read the posts closely enough.

You know you're probably right. I've never gone to Coronado from the airport or without my own transportation for that matter. I googled it and it's not really that far to take a cab. Depending upon what time the OP gets in, it should be an easy commute.
