Suggestions for accomodation in Santorini for 2 nights June 29-30, 2011
I am a mother travelling to Santorini for 2 nights on a flight from Athens with 2 teenage children. I don't think I have the confidence to hire a car and drive around. I am coming all the way from Melbourne, Australia.
I am undecided on where i should be staying - Fira, Firostefani, Imerovigi or Oia ?
I can spend upto AU$300-$350 a night (Euro 225-263) and want a really nice hotel / villa with a fabulous caldera view to accomodate three people. Since I am spending only two days I don't think I will be spending a lot of time in the hotel - however it would be nice to start and end the day in a really special place. If there is any cheaper and nice clean accomodation I would be happy to hear about it.
I like to be able to walk or take a bus or a taxi to see the red / black beaches and just generally enjoy the restaurants, shops, galleries and views of the island. Would love to see the sunset as well from the hotel or a good spot.
What places can you suggest and where is the best place ? Do I book these on the internet or is it best to ring ?
How far is the airport from Oia ? Most forums suggest that Oia is the best place to stay. Is this advisable in my situation ?

Oia is pretty and you can easily hire a driver through your hotel. Frequent bus service from Oia to Fira.
Beaches are not as nice as other islands. Stay in Oia. Can't help with hotel as we weren't too pleased with our choice, Esperas. Two nights is enough time to enjoy Oia and it's views.
