Transportation between airport and Sheraton Krabi

Any recommendation about how to get from the airport to the Sheraton in Krabi? Taxi?

That's what I'd do.

Which airport are you flying to - Krabi or Phuket?

taxi is easy...the hotel would also pick you up for a price probably... they have several vans..

the hotel is fantastic... don't miss eating at the thai restaurant on the rise just opposite the entrance to the hotel...

the hotel will drive you anyplace you want on the property by golf cart...all you have to do is request it... the property is very large... we prefer the swimming pool on the left as you face the sea.

i always rent a car when i am there as the hotel is somewhat remote. But perhaps you plan to spend your whole time at the hotel.. there is plenty to do there...

we rented a boat and it took us out to the islands for a relaxed day. they picked us up and dropped us off on the sheraton beach..

The rest. opposite the hotel is called the Terrace. Good thai at about 1/4 the price of the hotel. Going into Aou Nang is another fair dinning option. If you are there for a while and it is not a beach day, it is interesting to walk around, but if you don't get there you have not missed alot. Down the road beyond the Sheraton is the Amari Vogue. Take a taxi there for dinner. Go at sun set and watch the sun go down behind the islands and stay for dinner. It is magical.

Hi Kathie. Thanks guys. Flying BKK to Krabi for 6 nights. Trying the Best Western at BKK airport instead of Novotel this time. Price is half which helps if you need two rooms, Seventy dollars a night per dlx room at Sheraton Krabi with breakast and 25% off food and drinks and spa better than using points. Any more suggestions for Krabi appreciated. Staying at Sheraton Grande this time in BKK. At SFO waiting on flight. We shall see how things go this trip

PS Let us know how the Best Western is. The Novotel is convenient but overpriced.

Arrival BKK vis NRT at 2230. Airport pickup by Best Western with 15 wait as we require a van. 15 minute drive w/o traffic to hotel. Hotel new in similar motif to Novatel. Maybe not quite as upscale but still very nice perhaps slightly below the level of a typical Hyatt. Free Wifi. Airport shuttle every 30 minutes. Nice to type this on new IPad. I think the iPad may be perfect for travel.

Thanks for the report. mjs, I'm trying to decide between an ipad and a new laptop for our next trip. My only concern about the ipad was how difficult typing would be, since I compose parts of my trip report while traveling. What do you think? COuld you do that much typing comfortably on an ipad?

Kathie - Ipad2 with wireless keyboard(Apple or other makers). Very good companion to take around. Get the 3g+WiFi 64GB AT&T version(has the same size micro SIM as the rest of the world) so you can buy prepaid SIMs abroad. For Thailand get the TOT 3G(Imobile) 100 Baht prepaid SIM with 500GB and you have very fast Internet access for the Bangkok area.

Pook, I hadn't really thought about the wireless keyboard, but now I will. And thanks for the info about the SIM for Bangkok. We'll be in Bangkok bother before and after our sojourn in Burma.

There is a visit to my local Apple store in my future.

Stay at Best Western uneventful. Much better value at 67 dollars a night or 90 dollars/night with breakfast. Novatel more than twice the cost without breakfast. Breakfast decent American style breakfast with eggs to order. Not like the ROS etc but adequate. Van ride to airport 15-20 minutes at 0830.
Air Asia to Krabi. Sheraton van pickup uneventful with 20-30 minute drive to hotel.
Sheraton is a large hotel. Upgrade to Club room without ammenities which means larger bathroom with separate shower and bath with a view of beach due to Starwood Gold status.
Did not upgrade to full club status for $115/night per room as I already had buffet breakast included and did not think I would spend $115/day per room on drinks. Club abit far from the beach/pools. Nice beach and pool area. Indian restaurant and Thai restaraunt excellant with reasonable value at 25% off. Drinks are expensive. Spa prices like USA non resort prices at 25% off. Am going to try beach massage hut to right
of hotel tomorrow where the massages are 250 bht/hour. Going scuba tomorrow. Nice hotel for $70/night.
I must also say that I too was looking at a refurbished Macbook air for $900 as a travel computer but was holding out for the new models coming out this summer. I just wanted something for this trip and many of my friends who are more techy than me prefer the ipad to the Macbook air for lots of reasons. Also just got the 16mb qpad 2 but considered a refurbished 16mb ipad1. Do think the Macbook air may be a better choice for those who do a lot of work. You do use the ipad differently than a laptop with mostly fingers as opposed to key strokes. Will see how much I like it as the trip goes on.
