NY in July 2011. Events, concerts, festivals etc

I'm travelling to NY for the first time in July. Im there from the 13th to the morning of the 22nd and I was wondering if there is anything different than the regular tourist things going on this summer. I find it hard to see/find if there is any events specific to the dates im there. Any festivals etc. Open to any suggestions but note i'm a massive Broadway fan. Thanks =)

There is always something special happening in New York. Two places you can look for information are the web sites of New York Magazine (a special events section of hundreds of items searchable by date and type of event) and Time Out New York - more focused on clubs and music - but also with other listings.

As NY Traveler points out NY Mag and Time Out NY will offer extensive listings as will the following:

There is always something going during the summer in NYC.

Thank you, yes I have looked at both these sites but I like to plan ahead and its so hard to find listings of things now for July.
Anyone know if I can see a good Ballet around the middle of July? Most of them take a break around the time i'm visiting do they? Thanks again =)

I think you might catch one or more of the free Philharmonic concerts in the park during that time. I don't know if their schedule is posted yet, but it's usually in early to mid July. You can keep checking.

Lincoln Center has the Mostly Mozart Festival during the summer, which, BTW, is not really mostly Mozart. Check out the schedule on the Lincoln Center website.

Also check out the Midsummer Night's Swing on the plaza in Lincoln Center. It's usually on for a few weeks in June-July. You can join in - need to buy a ticket - or just watch the fun. Then you can say you performed at Lincoln Center.

P.S. There are a lot of free lunchtime concerts around the city in the summer, but again, you have to check for the schedules when the time gets closer.
Do check TONY and NYMag

This listing includes NYC, NYS (and other areas around the country) It gives a good idea of some of the major festivals (like Summerstage) that you can search more for your specific dates and interests. Some are free events, others not

There are similar listings for classical music, theater, dance

This week's Time Out NY is dedicated to the summer events and there are many ads as well.
