Columbus Circle Hostel - NYC

Our university will be taking a group of approximately 45 students to NYC for a networking event the first week of December, and I'm looking into the Columbus Circle Hostel as an option for an overnight stay for them, instead of the grueling one-day trip we made last year (left the university via bus at 7 a.m., arrived in NYC, students had to change into business attire in Waldorf Astoria restrooms, dinner & reception until 11 p.m., they had a quick tour on their own of the city, then we left at 3 a.m., arriving back to the university by 9 a.m. Never again.....)

The Trip Advisor reviews, etc., are good on this hostel, with the main complaint being that the bathrooms are tiny, which to me is minor. The hostel is quoting me a price of $50 per person, all fees and taxes included in the price. Does anyone have any experience staying at this hostel or have alternative suggestions? Thanks!

I'm not familiar with this hostel, but you might want to check out the YMCA on West 64th Street.

It seems that people ask about hostels more often at the NYC forum on TripAdvisor. Some people there seem to know which ones are legal and which aren't. You might want to ask about this one over there also.

The Hosteling International property - uptown near Columbia - has an excellent reputation. Right near the subway and very large - so plenty of rooms for all. they also have a lot of extra tourist type service s- since they're so large.

I'm not aware of a Columbus Circle Hostel but the YMCA Westside mentioned by owlwoman is right there. But if you've got 45 kids plus a chaperone or two, it seems crazy to pay a per person fee of $50. You'd be better off (if the kids are willing to share beds) to book some rooms/suites at the Wellington hotel which I know takes school groups or maybe the Salisbury or the Eastgate Tower...all budget hotels. At minimum if you do pick a hostel, they should give you quite a discount for a group.
