Restaurants in NOLA

I just found out that I'll be ging to a work conference in NOLA next week. There are two nights when I'm on my own for dinner. I'll be staying at the Sheraton at 500 Canal St and would like someplace within walking distance; I won't have a car and prefer to walk after sitting in meetings all day.

I've been to Copmmander's Palace and Bayona, so would like to go somewhere else. My preference is for fish/seafood, prepared lightly--nothing breaded and fried. My comapny doesn't keep me on a tight leash, financially, but I'd still rather be respectful about cost in these challenging times--entrees under $25, please.

Thanks!

Also check out Muriel's on Jackson Square and Oceana on the corner of Conti and Bourbon. We also enjoyed GW Fins on our last NOLA visit. The service was excellent and the restaurant if very attractive.

I didn't care for Emeril's, but I've never been to NOLA. But...Galatoire's is my favorite and you should try it if you've never been!

From reading all of the meus, it looks like Galatoire and Oceana may fit my requirements.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I was at Oceana earlier this year for lunch and had the blackened duck which was wonderful! The jumbalaya and veggies that came with it weren't so good, but the duck and the sauce made up for that. I know it's not seafood and it's not plain, but boy was it yummy!

A restaurant recommendation for something I won't eat--LOL! Don't really care much for duck, which is OK, as I can't afford the calories--especially blackened.

abram...you didn't say you wouldn't eat other things, just that you preferred fish and seafood! All the food we ordered at Oceana was very good.

Go to Bon Ton for classic creole cuisine. Domenica is nice too. Go for their happy hour half price drinks and half price pizza from 3/6 PM.

Bon Ton Cafe @ 401 Magazine St., New Orleans, LA. 504 - 524 - 3386.

Many years ago I went to Ralph and Kacoos and I found it VERY touristy.

I really wanted to like Tujagues as it is a NOLA institution, but is was just OK. It is different from other restaurants in the quarter though.

It's been a couple years since I was in New Orleans, but we had a good mufaleta at Napoleon House. It is primarily a bar, but they serve food as well. I also had a good avocado and shirmp salad there - not standard NOLA fare, but very good.

Napolean House does have a great muffuletta, but it doesn't sound like it would be something abram would want to eat.
