My wife and I are going to Savannah (Planters Inn) & Charleston (Andrew Pinckney Inn) the very end of April. We have three evenings in each.

Food is never the focus of our trips. I was thinking I'd like one nice dinner in each and keep the rest casual.

Savannah.
The Olde Pink House looks interesting and is very close to our hotel. Anybody been there recently?
I can't see waiting in line for Lady and Sons.
Does anybody have anything good or bad to write about Fiddlers Seafood?

Charleston.
SNOB. I keep looking at the menu it's just not my kind of menu. I'll show it to my wife and see what she thinks.
Hank's or Magnolias. Their menus look a little more like what I'd like. Recent Opinions?

I liked SNOB. Magnolia was good too.

For a casual choice in Charleston, check out Virgina's on King. They had excellent fried chicken, and very reasonable prices.

In Savannah - Olde Pink House gets recommended a LOT here as a nice dinner spot. I went a few weeks ago and posted before our trip, asking for inexpensive restaurant recommendations. Here's the thread, in case it's helpful:

Fiddler's was recommended there, but we didn't make it. We did go to the Cotton Exchange Tavern on River Street, in addition to some of the other suggestions, and really enjoyed it.

I was in Charleston over New Year's. We went to Fleet Landing for dinner and High Cotton (sister restaurant to SNOB and Magnolia, I'm told) for brunch. We all really liked both. High Cotton looked like a more expensive place, but brunch/lunch was quite reasonable.

I went to Magnolia's for lunch last Monday (ah vacation sounds like so much further in past than a week!), and the food/service were great. The decor was a bit outdated, and atmosphere would not appeal to me for a nice dinner out. We LOVED McCrady's and highly recommend it, but it was not traditional low country fare like Magnolia's. We had a cheap dinner out at the Mellow Mushroom on King and really enjoyed that too.

I worked in Savannah for several months last year and went to Pink House every chance I got. I was never disappointed. The food was great, the people nice and the atmosphere's fun.


Look at 82 Queen. It's one of the icons in Charleston. The food is great, the patio is nice, and the she crab is the best in town, says me and everybody else in town.

Hank's and Magnolia's are both good too. beckytx, people come to Charleston for that "outdated" stuff, lol!!

For something more casual, try Jestine's. I like those pickles.

Go to Crystal Beer Parlor in Savannah for good casual dining. Go to Local 11 Ten for fine dining and have drinks on their rooftop bar. Noble Fare is also outstanding for dinner. Sapphire Grill is also very nice for dinner.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Yesterday evening we reviewed some of the menus. For Savannah we decided on The Olde Pink House.

Other than that, I guess we're just not fine diners.

I'm not necessarily looking for inexpensive but more casual. The $15-20 menus seem to be more our style.

in Charleston we like SNOB. We tried Magnolia's the last time we were there and were totally underwhelmed - might have been an off night for them and it was ridiculously hot inside - so probably a combination of factors.

We LOVED Noble Fare in Savannah - a bit off the beaten path but so good we ate there two nights in a row!

we stayed at Planters and ate at Pink House 2 weeks ago.Pink house was great--definitley ask for a table in the old part,in the Office if you can get it.The new section doesnt have the ambience--we had a great young guy for our waiter.If you like fish, get the scoured flunder--its incredible. The 1st night we got in late (10) and went to the Tavern under the Pink house for drinks/dessert--they have nice piano music (Johnny Mercer), couches you can rest on, and same menu as Pink House--good way to start off our stay--We didnt like Vics on the river---for breakfast if you like beignets, go to Hueys along River St,on the river--nice views,and can eat outside.If you like blintzs, go to Clarys--have fun,its great city--one last though we used a private guide service for 4 hours the 1st day to try and get the feel for the city.Kathy,of Classic car tours was very good, 3rd generation Tybee island person--she also does 2 hour tours as well,in a very nice crossove vehicle with big seats

For casual and if you have a car, we enjoyed Uncle Bubba's, Paul Dean's brother's restaurant, we had the jambalaya and thought it to be really good. Also, what we really liked was sitting outside viewing the marsh. http://www.unclebubbas.com/

i travelled so much (3million miles) that i never eat where i sleep--also you get what you pay for generally--i looked in on breakfast, but it was the same old wait on line, cant wait to leave thing. I love breakfast and had in mind bintzs (clarys) and beignets(Hueys) to start the day off--just me, but i always do this

Is Pink House just a dinner place? We will be in HH in Sept & do a day trip to Savannah-how far is the drive-thanks in advance.

The Pink House is open for lunch every day except for Monday. It's about an hour's drive.

In Savannah, no one has mentioned Mrs. Wilkes, which is a lunch-only place open M-F from 11 am to 2 pm. Served up family style, the food is like that at The Lady and Sons, but better. A line forms before the place opens, and it's a good idea to get there ca. half an hour before opening to be near to head of the line.
