This is definitely a packed itinerary - too packed for my taste. You will spend a lot of time going from A to B and not much time in the places you are visiting. If it was my trip, I'd cut out some destinations and spend more time in the places that I did go. For example, you have 2 nights in Nuremburg and plan a day trip to Rothenburg obT while you are there - not much time left for Nuremburg. Then 2 nights in Munich, which will really mean maybe a day and a half.

A few things
Nurnberg = Nürnberg
Konig See = Königssee (like Tennessee, with two times "s")
salzweck = Salzburg ?
zugspitz = Zugspitze
Fussen = Füssen
Newswans = Neuschwanstein
Heidelburg = Heidelberg
Duseldorf = Düsseldorf

Thanks

I would cut out one of your days in Garmisch (Salzburg, if that is what you are referring to by "Salzweck", is nowhere near there anyway) and add that day to Berlin. Otherwise it's a full itinerary, but doable.

Reading your itinerary again, I am also not sure whether you need Duesseldorf in there. If you go there you should at least combine it with the cathedral in Cologne.

Why are you flying in/out of Zurich? That adds a lot of traveling for virtually no time there. The attraction of Dusseldorf is ?

It's a busy itinerary but definitely doable. Sounds like a fun trip.

I believe tchi means the Salzbergwerk (salt mine) near Bertschesgaden. It's a fun tour right there near the town.

Personally I like the idea of staying in one location longer and seeing the immediate surroundings or by taking day trips up to 1 or 1.5hrs away with just a day pack.

It means a lot less handling of luggage, figuring out where to store it, checking out, waiting for check-in time, etc. That works well when there's handy, rapid transportation options, but does not work so well where travel distances are longer or connections less frequent.

Your plan to stay at least 2 nights in most locations is good. I'd extend that to 3 or 4 if I could, even if it meant eliminating some destinations.

I would not go back and forth from Fussen to GP. In my experience you can see Neuschwanstein, Hohenschwangau, and the town of Fussen in a single day + overnight, and the travel time will chew up a lot of time on bus or car or train.

What I think your shortchanging yourself on is time to just enjoy the area you're in, especially the Alps. If the days are nice you can wile away hours quietly wandering through alpine trails & meadows, enjoying the vistas with a picnic in the sun, hanging out at a beer garden with fellow hikers or travelers you've met up with, zipping down a summer toboggan ride (Sommerrodelbahn) on one of the many ski slopes, or just going with the flow.

While I do like Bertschesgaden, I think the remoteness means it'll cause you the most effort to get to for the least value, unless you have your own car. I think the Eagle's nest is over rated, so I recommend you spend more time in the GP/Fussen region as a longer base, but that's just one person's opinion.

If you need transportation help in that area there's a resident fodorite in GP (swandav2000) who swears by the use of public transportation & can help.
