Oyster Cards v's Travel Cards Confused

We are in London for 2 nights and will just get around the zone 1 area's until we go to Heathrow Airport via the tube. A bit confused with the oyster card. Last time we were in London and we used a 7 day travel pass, could someone suggest what would be the best option? We are early birds too so would probably hit the tube during peak times.

Thanks Deb

For two nights, pay-as-you-go on Oyster. Tell the ticket clerk at Heathrow what you plan to do - I think you may need around £20-25 per person on it. There's no advantage to faffing around each day with one-day travelcards.

Totally agree with Patrick. Just add some pay as you go cash to your Oyster. If you have any leftover, use it up on your next trip.

There is one good reason to buy one-day, zone 1-2 travelcards for at least one of your days in London. National Rail has some very good 2for1 offers which require having either a regular train ticket or a paper travelcard bought at a National Rail station, not a Tube station. To see the offers and print vouchers for the ones that interst you, go to www.daysoutguide.co.uk.

Buy Oyster cards for the rest of your time in London and to get to Heathrow. If none of the offers appeal to you, use Oyster cards for all travel every day.

ONE one-day travelcard should suffice for the day they want 2x1's, correct?

I'm sure you also that if there is any money left over, you don't have to use it "next time", but can return the oyster cards for a full refund of remaining monies on the card plus the original deposit.

It is very quick to return it but give yourself some xtra time if you are planning to do that.

The OP and her travel partner will each need to have a one-day travelcard.

for the discounts? If it is 2x1.. shouldn't one travelcard suffice while the other can use the oyster the entire time? (Assuming the reason behind the travelcard was for the 2x1 discounts)

The rules say one each

Thank you. I had wrongly assumed that if i had a travelcard, and got a discount, 2 x 1 , I could take a London friend with me. Good to know. I obviously never read the fine print.
