Hotel Reccomendation in Brussels
My daughter (12) and I are heading to Europe for the first time this summer. We will be spending one (possibly two) night in Brussels before leaving for the USA the next day.
Any hotel recommendations? I don't think we want to stay at the airport. Would rather stay some place close to the City Center and have the ability to walk around all day , do some sight-seeing before catching our long flight home the next day.
Budget - I'm not really sure. We are in Europe - might as well enjoy, right? It doesn't have to be Hotel 8 cheap but I also can't afford the Four Seasons. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I enjoyed my stay at the Bedford and it is well within walking distance of the Grand Place. The last time I checked it cost somewhere around €75/night. I assume you will take the train to the airport and the Bedford is a short taxi ride to the train station.

Particularly in summer when the EU is not in session, Brussels can be a real steal on Priceline. I don't know if you have used the "Name your own price" function on Priceline before, but http://biddingfortravel.yuku.com/for...rlands-Belgium
has a list of recent successful bids, and nice four-star hotels can go for bids as low as $40 (plus tax & fee). Even if you eventually wind up bidding $65 or (gawdforbid) $75 you still get a great property (4-stars are reliably good) for a song.

We won a 4* hotel near grand place for $40 last fall. check out www.betterbidding.com to see how much people are winning there for your dates.. might be a solution.. also www.hotwire.com. If you go with a highly satisfied customer hotel .. hard to not be happy with it.
just don't overbid. you have time to keep trying everyday.

Thank you so much for the suggestions!
When bidding for a room online (which I've never done) how far out or close to the date do I start bidding?
Ann1 - The Hotel Welcome looks like a lot of fun for a 12 year old girl to explore!

start today as you can only make one bid every 24 hrs with same dates/star level. Do not go below 4*. and read up the faqs at the bidding assisting websites. either www.biddingfortravel.com or betterbidding.com. I prefer the latter.. just because they will actually walk you through the cycle if you ask them.

We stayed at the Mariott for 2 nights. We chose it because we had points to use for one night. The hotel was fine, but more of a business hotel. Location was good, across the street from the Bourse and very close to the Grand Place. If I were going again I would want to stay at the Hotel Amigo.
