This town on the northwestern tip of the Bodrum Peninsula is surrounded by tangerine orchards and olive groves and easily identified by the beautiful windmills atop its hill. Once a tiny sponge-divers’ village, Yal?kavak is a lot less quiet than it used to be since the opening of a large marina complex that includes a luxury hotel and mall. There are still some good local restaurants in the older part of town as well as many fine beaches ringing the surrounding coves. Xuma Beach Club and Dodo Beach Club, both about 4 km (2½ miles) north of town, are among the most popular; the latter is more family-friendly. Strong wind also makes Yal?kavak ideal for windsurfing.
