Built on a rocky promontory where the Dordogne River splits off from the mighty Garonne, this picturesque town's narrow alleyways and ancient buildings—all hewn from creamy pierre du Bourg stone—tumble charmingly from the old upper town toward the harbor. Though not as famous as its cousin Margaux across the river, the rich red Côtes de Bourg wine has been produced here since the Roman's founded the town in the second century.
