Feeling Festive?

During February's Carnaval the entire country goes on a Mardi Gras-like binge; in Caracas nearly everyone vacates the city and heads for the beach. Also in February, Mérida celebrates its Feria del Sol (Festival of the Sun) with bullfights and open-air salsa and merengue performances. In mid-March Paraguachí on Isla Margarita celebrates the Feria de San José. In the week before Easter the country celebrates Semana Santa (Holy Week). El Hatillo hosts an annual music festival in late October or early November with classical and pop performances. On September 24 Jají celebrates the Feast of St. Michael the Archangel with music, dance, and much fanfare.
