El Estaquería

El Estaquería Review

The wooden pillars here, carved of huarango wood and placed on mud-brick platforms, were once thought to have been an astronomical observatory. More recent theories, however, lean toward their use in mummification rituals, perhaps to dry bodies of deceased tribal members. You can take a private tour of the site for about S/25 with a three-person minimum.
