Casa Hacienda Shismay

Fodor's Review:

About 17 km away from the city this fortresslike colonial hacienda sits on 8,650 acres amid the stunning scenery of the Esperanza Valley. Rooms are rustic and cozy, but have brick fireplaces and an endless wood supply. Hierba Buena restaurant serves regional specialties and some basic international fare. Musicians from the nearby village of San Sebastian often come during dinner to play. The hotel will arrange horseback riding, trekking, bird-watching, and homestays in the area. Pros: Incredible value, romantic, lots of land. Cons: Far from town, no public transportation, rustic.
