Getting Here and Around

Most of the city can be explored on foot as most tourist amenities, hotels, restaurants, and the bulk of the churches and colonial buildings are within a few blocks of the Plaza de Armas. Getting to out-of-the-way workshops in Santa Ana and La Libertad requires a quick cab ride. Basic city tours (S/20) offered at every agency depart daily and will save you much of the hassle.

Ayacucho's Alfredo Mendívil Duarte Airport (AYP) is 4 km (2½ mi) from the city. You can take a taxi (about S/4), or catch a bus or colectivo from the Plaza de Armas, which will deliver you about a half block from the airport.
