Fodor's Review

Nestled in a patch of rainforest one block from the Plaza de Armas, the Wasaí Madlonado—one of Peru's most eco-friendly hotels—offers a jungle-lodge feel right in town. New rooms above the lobby have sweeping views of the Madre de Dios River, vertical gardens, solar panels on the roof, and vertical gardens. Older, tornillo-wood bungalows scattered amidst lush foliage on the hillside below overlook a small pool and river. Meals are served under a thatched roof surrounded

by greenery, while the shady grounds, which are home to sloths, frogs, and an array of birds, keep the hotel relatively cool when the rest of the town is sweltering. You can book any of various day trips, such as to Sandoval Lake, or head up the Tambopata River for a couple of nights at the other Wasaí properties.
