Fodor's Review

Nestled between the Tambopata River and a 3,000-hectare (7,400-acre) private nature reserve traversed by miles of trails, this eco-friendly lodge offers access to lots of wildlife, from the kayaks for paddling the Tambopata, to a platform in the canopy of a massive kapok tree, and the lodge's overnight excursions to Wasai's rustic Tambopata Wildlife Center, at the edge of the reserve, and early-morning trips to the nearby Collpa Chuncho clay lick to experience the sight of hundreds of macaws and parrots. Accommodations are in older quadruplex rooms (with tile bathrooms and shared porches) or freestanding bungalows, which have screened windows, electricity at night, hot water, and porches with hammocks. Be sure to ask for a bungalow. The lodge is reached by a four-hour bus-and-boat trip or a two hour drive and three-kilometer (two-mile) hike through the forest, which is less expensive than the boat trip.
