Fodor's Review:
Up until 1766, bullfights were held in the Plaza de Armas. They were moved across the river to this structure, which at the time was the largest bull ring in the world. It was originally octagonal, but in 1946 it was given its current circular shape. Matches were originally held on Sunday, but church leaders complained that attendance at services was getting sparse.
