You don't even have to walk through the door to know that this trattoria's pasta is fresh. Passersby pause by a window to watch cooks stuff the ravioli and drape the fettuccini on long wooden rods. But the proof is on the plate: delicious dishes like tortellini tossed with chunks of beef, mushrooms, and a touch of cream leave you satisfied but not stuffed. With room for dessert, you can be tormented by the tormento de chocolate. The only caveat is the service, which can be lackadaisical.

Quite possibly the best Italian food outside of Rome. The menu, although in Spanish, is pure Italian trattoria. "La Fettucine Magnifico" does not exaggerate: achingly fresh fettucine is tossed tableside in a sauce of truffle oil, prosciutto de Parma, and parmaggiano. Every dish is authentic and done to perfection. Desserts are South American size--so plan to share.
