An upscale option at a fraction of the price of some Cusco lodgings, this hotel mixes the best of the new and old Cusco. The front half drips with colonial charm—rooms are set around an attractive arcaded courtyard in the 17th-century former home of the Marquis of Picoaga. Behind is a modern wing with a restaurant that overlooks the Plaza de Armas. Rooms in the front colonial section are charming, although for style and comfort, the minimalist modern rooms with their truly enormous beds can't be beaten. The bar, with its open wood fire, huge leather couches and cozy atmosphere, is the best spot in Cusco on a cold Andean night. Pros: Good value for top-end lodgings, mix of modern and colonial room options, great view from the restaurant. Cons: Can be either overrun with tour groups or eerily empty, among the favorite stomping ground of Cusco's street sellers.
