Emergencies in Cusco & Machu Picchu

Emergencies

Most large hotels have oxygen available for anyone having trouble with the altitude. The nearest hospitals are in Cusco: the Hospital Regional is the public facility and provides decent care in a pinch; the private Clínica Pardo offers North American-European-style health care for higher prices than does the public hospital. Cusco's Tourist Police are part of the Policia Nacional and are specially trained to deal with visitor concerns, not just in the city but the region. Machu Picchu's municipal government employs an informal group of tourist police, not a division of the Policia Nacional. You'll recognize them with their baseball caps and blue or white T-shirts that say tourist security machupicchu.
