Once you check into this charming inn you may never want to check out. Two homes on a shady side street offer a variety of simple but elegant rooms, half of which are spacious apartments with well-stocked kitchenettes. Some open onto flower-filled courtyards, others have private balconies. For a special treat, ask for the room with a fireplace. Pros: Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff. Cons: Some nighttime crime in neighborhood.

Somewhere in between a B&B and a hotel, this is a great place to stay in Quito - comfortable, atmospheric and very friendly staff. Good breakfast... only downside is its location in Mariscal Sucre. This is the tourist district, but is not that safe - there is a security guard stationed outside the hotel at night, though, which alleviates some concerns.
