Quito Hotels

La Cartuja

  • Good budget value, friendly owners

  • Noisy, some nighttime crime in neighborhood, take taxi to and from at night

Fodor's Review

This lovely colonial building occe served as the embassy of Great Britain. The hotel's library is stocked with books and magazines. Spanish and international meals are served in the restaurant. You receive a slight discount if you pay in cash.

Cant fault it! Excellent all round!

lovely garden room- quiet and very comfortable. Staff couldnt have been friendlier and more helpful. Would definitely return and recommend it to anyone.

They know how to take the reservation . . .

But they can't keep the reservation, which is really the most important part of the reservation (per Seinfeld). I booked with La Cartuja and received confirmation from the owner via email. I land in Quito, and when I arrive at the hotel, the lady at the front desk tells me that the owner gave away my room. So now I am there with all of my bags, and no where to stay. When I ask to talk to the owner, she calls him, and then he refuses to come down

and talk to me. I would not recommend this hotel at all. Poor customer service.
