The present owner, Edurne Ayestarán, came to Ecuador from Spain on holiday and decided to turn this lovely colonial building—once the embassy of Great Britain—into a small hotel. Along with her partner, Inígo Sagarna, she also has a jungle lodge (the Jaguar Lodge) on the Napo River. The hotel's front desk is open 24 hours; the library is stocked with books and magazines. Spanish and international meals are served in the restaurant. You receive a slight discount if you pay in cash. Pros: Good budget value. Cons: Noisy, some nighttime crime in neighborhood.
