Getting Here & Around
The blue buses of Los Libertadores and the transport of Expreso Gaviota from Bogotá's Terminal de Transporte run to Villa de Leyva. Direct buses leave early in the morning; later in the day travelers must take a bus to Tunja and hire a taxi to Villa de Leyva or Paipa.
Car travel in this region is dangerous, not only because of crime but because of the aggressive drivers on the well-traveled route to Tunja. If you do choose to drive, take the route through Tunja for both Villa de Leyva and Paipa. This road is being upgraded to a four-lane highway; expect construction north of the village of Briceño, 20 km (13 mi) from Bogotá.
You can easily hire guides in Villa de Leyva to explore the surrounding area, including the Santuario de Fauna y Flora Laguna de Iguaque. Guías y Travesías and Mónica Luis both have offices near the main plaza in Villa de Leyva.
