Futaleufu

Near the town of Villa Lucia, Ruta 231 branches east from the Carretera Austral and winds around Lago Yelcho. About 159 km (99 miles) later, not far from the Argentine border, it reaches the tiny town of Futaleufú. Despite being barely five square blocks, Futaleufú is high on many global travelers' itineraries. World-class adventure sports await here, where the Río Espolón and the Río Futaleufú collide. It's the staging center for serious river kayaking and white-water rafting, as well as a glorious spot for mountain biking, fly-fishing, hiking, and horseback riding. The small community also has surprisingly nice lodging and dining options.
