Ensenada

A drive along the southern shore of Lago Llanquihue to Ensenada takes you through the heart of Chile's murta-growing country. Queen Victoria is said to have developed a fondness for these tart red berries, and today you find them used as ingredients in syrups, jams, and küchen. Frutillar, Puerto Varas, and Puerto Octay might all boast about their views of Volcán Osorno, but you can really feel up close and personal with the volcano when you arrive in the town of Ensenada, which also neighbors the jagged Volcán Calbuca. The lake drive to Ensenada is also without doubt one of the prettiest in southern Chile.
