Summer, with its better weather and ample presence of vacationers, also means festival season in the Lake District. In late January and early February, Semanas Musicales de Frutillar brings together the best in classical music. Verano en Valdivia is a two-month-long celebration centered on the February 9 anniversary of the founding of Valdivia. Villarrica hosts a Muestra Cultural Mapuche in January and February that shows off Mapuche art and music. During the first week of October, Valdivia hosts a first-class, nationally acclaimed international film festival.
