The Central Coast Sights

Monumento Nacional Isla Cachagua

Fodor's Review

Off the coast from Cachagua, several miles north of Maitencillo, is the protected island inhabited by Magellan and Humboldt penguins. No one is allowed on the island, but you can ride around in a small boat that can be hired at the Caleta de La Laguna or Caleta de Zapallar. You can also view the island from the beach below Cachagua, though you need binoculars to watch the penguins wobble around.
