Fodor's Review

This large, iconic hill within Parque Metropolitano is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Santiago. From the western entrance at Plaza Caupolicán (Pio Nono) you can take a steep but enjoyable one-hour walk to the summit, or take the funicular. (The funicular, which opened in 1925, is a historic monument.) At the top is the gleaming white statue of the Virgen de la Inmaculada Concepción. Until it fell into disrepair in 2009, a teleférico (cable car) ascended from the eastern entrance, seven blocks north of the Pedro de Valdivia metro stop. At this writing teleférico operations are suspended, with no firm plans for repairs as the process has stalled at the request for proposal stage. Driving up costs to 3,000 pesos per car during the week and 4,000 on weekends.
