The sails flying from the roof let you know that Isla Negra means business when it comes to seafood. The restaurant takes its name from a coastal town south of Santiago that was Nobel laureate Pablo Neruda's last home. The poet's favorite dish was conger eel soup, and you'll find it served here as a starter. Don't miss the empanadas stuffed with everything from cheese to razor clams. The chupe de marisco, a delicious seafood chowder, comes in a quaint earthenware bowl.

We went to Isla Negra because it is identified, in Fodor's, as a restaurant which is serious about serving excellent seafood. The food we were served was unedible and the service horrific. The only things that were good were the bread and bottle of Chilian wine. We would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. It is expensive (we spent over $100 American) and not worth it. There are many other wonderful seafood restaurants in Santiago, such as Aqui Esta Coco and Infante 51.
