The Montebianco—in a charming four-story building dwarfed by the towers surrounding it—has an informal setting and a friendly, helpful staff. The rooms, which wind around a central staircase, are on the small side; the king-size beds take up most of the space. Make sure to ask for a room with more space to spread out. The hotel is right on a popular dining thoroughfare.

This was a great hotel but it closed a few years ago.
